The Prospect of a World Community of Religions: Domination or Collaboration?

On October 13-5th, 2004,  A three day seminar took place at Millsaps College  in Jackson, MS featuring nine of the world’s renowned scholars:  Marcus Borg, Walter Brueggemann, Joan Chittister, John Dominic Crossan, A.J. Levine, William Mallard, Tex Sample, Phyllis Tickle, Arvind Sharma. Given their increasing mutual awareness and potential for interaction, can religions coexist in harmony, or must they compete with each other to compete for the allegiance of the peoples of the world? It seems that religious communities might address shared moral and spiritual concerns for working together, but historic legacies of misunderstanding, contempt, are formidable obstacles. In this symposium, a team of distinguished religion scholars assessed the prospects for practical inter-religious relations in today’s world.
