The Rev. Deborah Dykes
Director of Media and Curricula

Debo Dykes has worked with the D. L. Dykes Jr., Foundation since 1987, when she began volunteering and assisting D. L. Dykes, Jr. with his work at Alternate View Network in Shreveport, Louisiana.  She was a co-host for Dr. Dykes’  Sunday morning programs that were broadcast via satellite to people across the United States. Over the years she has been a dedicated volunteer, as she has assisted with video production, seminar events, communications, and development.  In 2008 she began to work with a small group out of Texas to create The Progressive Christian Center of the South. Debo formally joins the staff as Director of Media and Curricula in January of 2010.

Debo earned both a BS and a Master’s degree in Education, at LSU and Mississippi State respectively.  Following graduate work in Anglican Studies at the Iliff School of Theology in Denver, she was ordained as Episcopal Clergy in 2001 at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral in Denver, CO.  Debo was a NASA Teacher in Space National Finalist and has earned numerous awards including Louisiana Teacher of the Year and selection as a Chautauqua Institute Fellow in the 2008 New Clergy Program.

For the past eighteen years Debo has worked in spiritual formation and education, first as Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral in Denver, Colorado, then as Canon for Formation & Mission at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral in Jackson, Mississippi, and most recently as Director of Programming for the Center for Formation & Mission for The Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi.  In addition, she has worked as an educator through the development of video resources and as a classroom science teacher. Her years of experience in teaching and curriculum development are imbued with a commitment to accuracy and justice in the teaching of Christianity, and she currently participates in a peer-learning group funded by the Lilly Endowment, called “Behold the Feminine Face of God,” an area of interest that inspires her teaching and research.
