AUDIO CD Jesus for the Non-Religious $30.00

4 lectures by Bishop John Shelby Spong: “Separating Myth from History,” “Did He Die for My Sins?” “Jesus, A Man for All Seasons,” “Why I Am a Christian.”

In this FAITHANDREASON® DVD, recorded in November 2007 in Denver, Colorado, Bishop Spong presents four extraordinary lectures based on material from his book, Jesus for the Non-Religious.

In “Separating Myth From History,” he draws back the curtain on how early followers drew on Jewish Messianic longing and literature to “flesh out” the significance of their experience of Jesus of Nazareth, how that longing forged their convictions about who he was and how those convictions shaped the Gospels and later Christian Orthodoxy.

In “Did He Die For My Sins?” Spong traces the evolution of early Christian thought that culminated in theological and liturgical formulations such as, “The Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world.” He discusses how such formulations have helped us and how they have hurt us.

In “Jesus, A Man For All Seasons,” the Bishop creates a portrait of Jesus of Nazareth that is non-exclusive while it is universal – a Jesus who seeks abundant living for all people.

In “Why I Am A Christian,” a sermon delivered at Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church, Jack Spong gives testimony to a life of Christian evolution and change made possible for him by patience, good will, and compassion from the very human beings his own denomination traditionally judged and excluded – women, minorities, and gay and lesbian people.
